Life At The Limit

Life At The Limit

Author: Sid Watkins
Publisher: Pan Macmillan
ISBN: 1447241010
Pages: 264
Year: 2013-03-07
'It's pretty rare to come across a motor racing book that tempts you to read the thing in one sitting but "Prof" Watkins has produced a gem ... [he] is a superb raconteur, not afraid to speak him mind yet peppering the gravity with occasionally side-splitting humour. No true motorsport fan should be without this book.' Autosport Grand Prix racing has undergone sweeping changes in the last thirty years. Many of these involve safety and medical rescue. The man behind them - a champion in the racing world although he has never won a race - is the eminent neurosurgeon Sid Watkins. Life at the Limit is his remarkable story. It spans the most exciting years in Grand Prix racing and includes intimate portraits of motorsport's greatest names, from Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda to Alain Prost and Damon Hill. Sid Watkins has also witnessed, at first hand, some of the most severe and spectacular racing accidents. His account of these is made all the more poignant by the fact that some of the men he has rescued, sometimes at the point of death, have been personal friends. From Monza, in 1978, where Ronnie Petersen suffered a fatal accident, to Imola in May 1994 where Ayrton Senna met his untimely death, the high, and low, points of Grand Prix racing are vividly described. For all fans of Formula One, this is the inside story of the world's most dangerous sport.

Ever Increasing Faith

Author: Smith Wigglesworth

Pages: 130
Year: 2013-03
Smith Wigglesworth was born to a very poor family. At the age of six he had to go to work. As a consequence, he never learned to read well until he was an adult. He became a plumber by trade. As a minister, Wigglesworth was hardly known outside of his hometown until 1907. In 1907, he received the baptism in the Holy Ghost, which changed his life forever. It was then, at the age of 48, that God moved Wigglesworth from a small relatively unknown ministry to conducting powerful meetings throughout the world, stirring the faith of thousands to receive healing and salvation. Wigglesworth would usually conclude a sermon by praying for the sick; regardless of what text he had ministered. Smith Wigglesworth's ministry centred on salvation for the unconverted, healing for the sick, and a call to believers to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. He was filled with God...with love, compassion, and faith. On March 12, 1947, Smith Wigglesworth, in perfect health, closed his eyes and slipped into eternity, at the age of 87.

STATIONEN: EIN KURSBUCH FÜR DIE MITTELSTUFE, Third Edition is an intermediate German program that combines engaging cultural topics with authentic readings and contextualized grammar in a unifying context. Each chapter of STATIONEN revolves around a city or region in the German-speaking world. This overarching concept brings the program together and invites students and instructors to make connections and comparisons between chapters, topics, and cultural issues. STATIONEN also refers to the “stations” between the first beginnings of a journey into German life and language and to more advanced study and exploration on the intermediate level. In addition, the accompanying video component contains footage of videoblogs from eleven cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland that complements the textbooks content and serves as windows to contemporary German culture. These snapshots of everyday life connect interview clips with images of public spaces to move students beyond the realm of ordinary language instruction and into the scenarios and situations that reflect a developing German speaker’s real-world needs.
